**The Canon M3 exhibits sensor artifacts due to the phase detect pixel array. This can be visible as multiple horizontal blue lines across the image.

*These cameras have an internal shutter monitor IR LED which will cause light leaks when using very long exposures and high ISOs in the H-alpha and IR enabled conversions, in the range of 30 second exposures at 6,400 ISO.

A Note on the EOS R Series: The Canon R series mirrorless bodies do not have an internal IR LED, however many RF LENSES do! So, using most RF lenses on a converted R-series body can still cause IR light leaks, while using adapted EF lenses is mostly safe. Click here to read more about this effect.

This conversion service replaces the camera’s internal hot mirror filter with our high quality custom manufactured glass replacement infrared or clear filter. The autofocus systems are calibrated to the 50mm 1.8mm lens. This calibration results in general focus accuracy for most lenses from 18-300mm. You can also send your own lens to be calibrated to instead at no additional charge. Note, wide angle lenses need a different focus calibration.
Our checkout system is through Paypal, but you do not need an account to pay. If you have a time sensitive order, please select “Rush Delivery” as your shipping option to receive first in line service. Leave us a note with your deadline so we can work to meet it.

After you complete checkout, you will be redirected to our shipping instructions page.

For help choosing which filter to order, check out our filter selection guide.

Focus Calibration Information:

Please note that on mirrorless cameras, we calibrate the camera to focus universally with all lenses. For DLSR camera’s our post-conversion focus calibration is set to 50mm, and will generally focus well with most lenses between 20mm – 300mm. If you are sending in a DSLR for conversion and plan on using lenses outside this range, or using one specific lens, you may want to include this lens with the camera so we can calibrate the camera to it specifically. If you have any concerns regarding lenses and your DLSR camera; please reach out to our customer service team before shipping the DSLR to us.

AR Coating

What is the AR coating and what does it do? The AR coating option adds an IR centered anti-reflective coating onto the IR filter we install when we perform an infrared conversion. It reduces hotspot artifacts that some lenses are prone to, and can reduce other stray reflections. On our full spectrum conversions we apply a broadband AR coating that covers the UV, visible, and IR ranges. The coating does not reduce optical performance in any way and is highly recommended.

Background:

Uncoated glass has a reflection of around 4-5% at all wavelengths, and we found that this reflection off the sensor filter was bouncing off the glass and reflecting back from the lens housing and aperture blades to cause IR hotspots.  We developed this anti-reflective coating that is centered around the IR wavelengths that cause hotspots, and reduced the 5% reflection down to <0.5%

Reflectance Curve

Conversion AR Coating

When applied to our internal conversion filters, we find that hotspots are significantly reduced during infrared photography. Below is a sample from a Nikon 50mm 1.8 which has a strong hotspot at small apertures. Independent tests also available from Mark Hilliard here and Edd Noble here.

3 reviews for Canon DSLR and Mirrorless Full Spectrum Conversion Service

  1. Tomas Jirku

I’m very pleased with Kolari’s full-spectrum conversion of my Canon 6D, and their customer service has been very helpful and informative. I asked *a lot* of questions before and after the conversion, and the owner was *always* very prompt and helpful with his answers. The thorough research I did before committing to the conversion of my main camera gave me confidence that Kolari was the best company to provide the service, and the results confirmed that!

  2. Robert Wirth

Had my camera converted and was able to drop off and pick it up instead if mailing it in.

Afterwards I had a bunch of questions that they gladly answered and didn’t make me feel like a dummy or try to rush me out of the place.

I would have no problems bringing them another camera to convert or to recommend them to others.

  3. Matt A. (verified owner)

Full spectrum is definitely the way to go if you’re going to convert your camera for IR UNLESS you’re dead set on one particular look that a certain filter gives you. I previously had a 720nm converted camera but it limited me in terms of color IR. I really like the rich, deep blue sky that the 590 filter gave but there’s only so much manipulation in post that I can do to make the sky deep blue to my liking. So I decided to sell it and convert my old 60D to FS. Full spectrum gives me the most flexibility in IR photography, and therefor the most value. I’m not tied down by any one filter now. I can shoot with any strength IR filter that I want. Or I can pop on a hot mirror (UV/IR cut), essentially making it a regular camera again. Yes, the viewfinder becomes useless from 720nm+ but if you have live view on your camera, it’s a non-issue. I bought the 590nm, IR chrome, and the hot mirror filters with it. I already had a 720nm at home so I’m pretty set for IR now. Kolari also sent me a bonus custom neoprene neck strap with their name on it. Brownie points there
