Kolari Magnetic Clip-in Filters For Nikon Z-Mount (Infrared)

Capture light beyond the visible spectrum for surreal infrared imagery.

Image name: Life On Mars, Author name: Katie Farr

Our Kolari Magnetic Clip-in Filters for Nikon Z-Mount (Infrared) open up new possibilities for infrared photography. They provide a seamless way to add rear infrared filtering to full-spectrum converted Nikon mirrorless cameras (see compatibility below), enhancing your creative or technical options.

You can also use our UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Filters to achieve normal visible colors, as if it was a stock camera.

Crafted with the professional-grade optics Kolari is known for, these filters are securely fitted into a CNC-machined aluminum magnetic frame designed for maximum lens compatibility. This universal solution fits perfectly with lenses lacking filter threads and can be paired with external lens filters for added filtration effects. Now you can explore the unique world of infrared photography with ease and flexibility.

Our IR filters are made to work with full-spectrum modified cameras to target a specific wavelength or artistic effect. These filters either completely block visible light while only letting near-infrared pass or offer a mixture of both visible and near IR light. Useful for fine art, forensics, and many other professional applications.

IR Filter Options:

550nm Infrared – Inspired by false-color IR film, the 550nm can produce deep blue skies and pink foliage. This filter lets in more visible light than the 590nm filter and can be used to emulate aerochrome (but not as easily as our IR Chrome Filter) after a channel swap and a few hue adjustments. The unique colors that can be achieved with this filter are perfect for interesting IR landscapes. This filter requires post-processing and is compatible with a full spectrum camera.

590nm Infrared – The 590nm filter can produce vibrant false colors while allowing for flexibility in post-processing. It’s typically used to produce golden-yellow foliage and bright blue skies. This filter requires post-processing and is compatible with a full spectrum or a lower cutoff IR converted camera.

665nm – The 665nm filter can produce vibrant false colors with good B+W contrast. It’s typically used to produce light yellow leaves or the classic white IR look with blue skies. This filter requires post-processing and is compatible with a full spectrum or a lower cutoff IR converted camera.

720nm Infrared – The classic IR filter, the 720nm filter is great for blue sky false color and provides great contrast and dynamic range for B+W. This filter requires post-processing and is compatible with a full spectrum or lower cutoff IR converted camera.

780nm Infrared – The 780nm IR filter creates the classic high contrast B&W IR effect straight out of camera while letting in more light than a traditional 850nm filter. Perfect for B&W IR photography with minimum post-processing, hotspots are also less severe when using this filter. This filter requires post-processing and is compatible with a full spectrum or lower cutoff IR converted camera.

850nm Infrared – The 850nm IR filter creates the classic high contrast B+W IR effect straight out of camera. This filter is compatible with a full spectrum or lower cutoff IR converted camera. It can also be used with some stock cameras with a long exposure.

IR Chrome Lite – The IR Chrome Lite uses both infrared and visible light to mimic the look of the classic Kodak Aerochrome IR film with little to no editing. This filter is only for use with a full spectrum converted camera. Its thin glass design allows it to work behind the lens and achieves richer color than the original IR Chrome.

Our infrared filters will require a full-spectrum modified camera to produce the proper effect. (590nm, 665nm, 720nm, 850nm, IR Chrome Lite, UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Pro 2)

Our magnetic mounting plate is recommended for all clip-in-compatible Z models!

Nikon Z5, Z6, Z6 II, Z6 III, Z7, Z7 II, Z8, Z9, and ZF

At this time, our Kolari Magnetic Clip-in Filters for Nikon Z-mount are not compatible with the Z-Mount Komodo X, Nikon Z50 or Nikon Z-mount APS-C cameras.

*** Please note that when used with a Nikon Z Mount 26mm f/2.8 lens, the rear element may protrude into the lens mount. This lens is not compatible with clip-in filters.

***Nikon cameras tend to struggle with white balancing in video when using filters 665nm and above. These filters will be compatible for stills, but you may not be able to white balance properly in video mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Kolari Magnetic Clip-In Filter is a versatile filter system designed to fit directly into the Nikon Z-Mount, allowing you to use various filters such as ND, Mist, Infrared, SFX, Astro, and more with any lens size.
This system provides a one-filter-fits-all solution, eliminating the need for multiple filter sizes. It is easy to install and remove, and offers a wide range of filter options for different photography needs.
Yes, our Kolari Magnetic Clip-in Filters for Nikon Z-Mount is compatible with all Nikon Z-mount lenses. They are also compatible with F-mount lenses when using an FTZ adapter.
The filter clips securely into the Nikon Z-Mount using a magnetic mechanism. Once the mag mount plate is installed, simply place the filter into the mount and it will snap into place. (See guide video above.)
No, these filters are made from high-quality optical glass and feature advanced coatings to ensure they maintain image sharpness, color accuracy, and thickness required for fast and accurate focus.
The series includes ND (Neutral Density), Mist, Infrared, SFX (Special Effects), Astro, and other specialty filters to cater to various photography and videography needs.
The slim design of the filter minimizes the risk of vignetting, even when used with wide-angle lenses.
Astrophotography thoroughly tests the optics of any camera system and lens. Ultrawide lenses are particularly challenging because of the high rear incidence angles involved where any additional glass has the possibility of inducing a field curvature which can cause corner sharpness on a lens-by-lens basis; this effect is most noticeable at wide apertures. While this should always be a consideration with any ultra wide lens, we typically only see issues with astrophotography where the target subject is a series of geometrically perfect points of light at infinity, shot at wide apertures.

Some delivery addresses are classified by DHL as remote areas. These are locations that are farther away from major cities or standard delivery routes, such as rural towns, islands, or hard-to-reach regions.

Because of the extra time and cost required to deliver there, DHL applies a Remote Area Surcharge (RAS).

With our shipping calculator, these surcharges are now shown before you place your order.

If your address is flagged as a remote area, we recommend checking whether you have an alternative address (such as a workplace or a friend/family member’s address) that is not on DHL’s remote area list. This can help you avoid the surcharge.
