4 reviews for Kolari Vision Infrared Lens Filter – Standard

  1. Marc Dhavernas

This was my first time experimenting with IR, though I couldn’t use any of the filters Kolari Vision sent to me, they answered very quickly. I had to return the filters because I couldn’t use them on my Canon 60D they refunded me without a hassle. Excellent service and I highly recommend their services.

  2. Kim Braley

Great customer service and products. I purchased a IR converted camera along with several IR filters – I started with a point and shoot because I wasn’t sure if this would be something I want to play with or something I want to invest more time in. There was a nice selection to choose from and plenty of filter options. If you are in the market for an IR converted Canon camera and there is an option to purchase a CHDK memory card from Kolari – do it! It’s a reasonable cost and doing your own is kind of a pain (I know from first-hand experience).

I bought the 590nm Ultra Color filter for my full spectrum conversion and it has been an absolute game changer. I was so limited in the false color I was able to do with my 720nm camera but this filter gives such colorful results that I have nicknamed it my “Candyland Filter” because of the insane color combinations you can achieve during the color channel swapping. Coral and aqua, yellow and blue, pink and green. Playing with the hue slider in photoshop during the color channel swapping process is so much fun. It looks like a land from Willy Wonka. It has quickly become my favorite IR filter for false color processing and I would definitely recommend it to anyone into false color IR. On the contrary, I can easily emulate the look of the 665 or 720 filters simply by desaturating the yellow and blue so this is really a 3-in-1 filter. It’s extremely versatile and that’s why I would recommend it to anyone that likes the looks of those three strengths. On the subject of Chromatic aberration, there does seem to be a little in my photos due to both the visible and IR wavelengths passing through the filter but it’s not bad. I use the Canon 24mm f/2.8 pancake (shot at f/8, this lens’ sweet spot) and I don’t see any glaring issues. There may be some noticeable problems if you print big but for smell printing and screen viewing, it’s a non-issue. Love this filter!

I use this filter on a Nikon D5100 full spectrum. Very nice colours and very nice quality of the product. Go for it, you won’t be disappointed.
