Kolari Vision Infrared Filter 1000nm - Olympus_OMD_EM1II_1000nm-Example_Large

Unlock the unseen with the Kolari Vision 1000nm Infrared Lens Filter. | Useful for many forensic and scientific applications, this filter pushes the limits of your camera. Your camera’s sensitivity will start to drop off sharply at this point, so it is important to have proper illumination when using this filter. Depending on your camera/lens combination, longer exposure times may be required.

This filter requires a full-spectrum converted camera, or an infrared camera converted to a lower wavelength, such as the 550, 590, 665, 720, or 850, to produce the desired visual effect.

Uncoated glass, like in our standard IR filters, has a reflection of around 7.7% at all wavelengths (about 4% when the light enters the glass, and another 4% when the light exits the glass). For our Pro Gen 3 IR filters, we developed an IR centered anti-reflective coating that reduced the ~7.7% reflection down to <0.4% on average over the IR band, reducing ghosting and glare while increasing overall transmission from 90% to 98%. We also topped our Gen 3 filters with a hydrophobic anti-smudge scratch resistant coating to increase durability and make cleaning easy.

We understand that post-processing IR images can be challenging at first but don’t worry, we have many resources and tutorials available for IR photographers. Here are a few of our most popular IR post-processing resources below:

how to find filter thread size
Finding the Right Filter Size for Your Lens
Before placing your order, please double-check your lens’s filter thread size, not your camera model or lens focal length. The correct filter size is usually printed on the front or side of the lens, or underneath the lens cap. Look for a number next to the diameter symbol (ø), such as ø77mm—this is the size of the filter you need. Important: Your lens’s focal length (e.g., 70–200mm) is not the same as the filter thread size.

Frequently Asked Questions

A 1000nm infrared lens filter cuts light below 1000nm and lets all light above this wavelength pass, producing high-contrast, monochromatic images with unparalleled detail and clarity.
The 1000nm filter is ideal for black-and-white infrared photography, scientific research, and specialized imaging applications, revealing hidden details with exceptional clarity.
No, the filter can only be used with full-spectrum cameras or cameras converted to an infrared wavelength under 1000nm.
The 1000nm filter can experience about 10 stops of light loss due to the sensor’s sharp drop-off in infrared sensitivity after 900nm.
Clean the filter gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and lens cleaning solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials to maintain its optical quality.
