Kolari Infrared Lens Filter - Blue IR/NDVI

Capture near-infrared light while allowing blue light to pass, enabling vegetation analysis by highlighting the health of plants through distinct color contrast.

Kolari Vision Blue Infrared blue Ir Example_Large

The Blue IR/NDVI filter produces vibrant false colors similar to the 590nm filter directly in camera without post-processing. This filter transmits both blue light and IR, making it useful for BGN type NDVI crop analysis.

This filter requires a full-spectrum converted camera to produce the desired visual effect.

Uncoated glass, like in our standard IR filters, has a reflection of around 7.7% at all wavelengths (about 4% when the light enters the glass, and another 4% when the light exits the glass). For our Pro Gen 3 IR filters, we developed an IR centered anti-reflective coating that reduced the ~7.7% reflection down to <0.4% on average over the IR band, reducing ghosting and glare while increasing overall transmission from 90% to 98%. We also topped our Gen 3 filters with a hydrophobic anti-smudge scratch resistant coating to increase durability and make cleaning easy.

We understand that post-processing IR images can be challenging at first but don’t worry, we have many resources and tutorials available for IR photographers. Here are a few of our most popular IR post-processing resources below:

how to find filter thread size
Finding the Right Filter Size for Your Lens
Before placing your order, please double-check your lens’s filter thread size, not your camera model or lens focal length. The correct filter size is usually printed on the front or side of the lens, or underneath the lens cap. Look for a number next to the diameter symbol (ø), such as ø77mm—this is the size of the filter you need. Important: Your lens’s focal length (e.g., 70–200mm) is not the same as the filter thread size.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Blue IR NDVI Filter captures both visible blue and near-infrared light, enabling detailed vegetation analysis and health assessments through NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index).
This filter is primarily used for precision agriculture, forestry, environmental monitoring, and scientific research to assess plant health and vegetation vitality.
The filter can be used with full-spectrum cameras. Stock digital cameras typically need modifications to effectively capture the necessary wavelengths for NDVI analysis.
The Blue IR NDVI Filter does not cause any significant loss of light, allowing you to shoot with normal exposure settings.
Clean the filter gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and lens cleaning solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials to maintain its optical quality.
