Kolari Astrophotography Filters

Explore our wide-range of Astrophotography filters, engineered specifically for all of your deep-sky imaging needs.

Kolari, in collaboration with IDAS, presents a premium range of astro filters designed to enhance your astrophotography experience. Our collaborative filters include the Nebula Booster NBZ-II, Dusk to Dawn (DTD), HEUIB-II, and NGS1 (LPS-D3). These filters are meticulously engineered to meet the needs of astrophotographers, offering exceptional performance and image clarity.

In addition to our collaborative filters, we offer a variety of standalone filters tailored for specific astrophotography needs. Our collection includes the Light Pollution filter, UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror, UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pass, and H Alpha Narrowband (7nm) filter.

Whether you’re capturing deep-space objects or seeking to reduce light pollution, Kolari Vision’s collection of astro filters has you covered.

*All clip-in filters purchased on this page will come with a magnetic mounting plate included.

We’re excited to share that we’re collaborating with IDAS to add their specialized Astro filters to our collection of drop-in filter options. The filters are compatible with our Kolari EF-EOS R Lens Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter (EF/EF-S to RF) and Canon’s version of the adapter as well. We’re also working on adding compatibility for Canon telephoto lenses that feature a drop-in filter slot.

Kolari/IDAS – NBZ-II Nebula Booster

The Nebula Booster NBZ-II is a specialized filter designed to enhance deep-sky imaging. With a 10nm H-alpha narrowband and an 8nm OIII narrowband, this filter provides superior contrast and detail for capturing nebulae and galaxies. Unlike competitive 7nm or narrower filters that lose significant transmittance in fast optical systems (around F2), the NBZ-II maintains 80% or more transmittance under the same conditions.

Kolari/IDAS – DTD (Dusk To Dawn)

The Dusk to Dawn (DTD) filter is the next-generation light pollution filter with an included IR transmission area. It works exceptionally well with full-spectrum cameras, passing the same wavelengths of Ha and OIII regions, and also bands with comet ion tails. This makes it an excellent choice for both deep-sky and comet photography.

Kolari/IDAS – HEUIB-II UVIR Cut Red Corrected Hα

The HEUIB-II filter is designed to block unwanted wavelengths while allowing the transmission of critical H-alpha, H-beta, and O-III lines. This filter is similar to the UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pass filter used in our astro modifications but with reduced excess red signal, making it ideal for enhancing the visibility of emission and reflection nebulae.

Kolari/IDAS – NGS1 (LPS-D3) Night Glow Suppression

The NGS1 (LPS-D3) is an upgraded light pollution suppression filter that excels in both urban and rural environments. It effectively suppresses both man-made lights and natural night glow, significantly improving the clarity and contrast of deep-sky objects.

This filter has a similar transmission to our UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Filter, but with an expanded spectral response covering the H-alpha and sulfur II emission lines making it also useful for Astrophotography when used with a Full-Spectrum converted camera. When used with a full spectrum converted camera, these filters will provide a greater than 4 fold increase in sensitivity in the H-alpha line compared to a stock camera and a greater than 6 fold increase in sensitivity in the sulfur II line.

Also known as a lowpass filter or UV/IR cut filter, our UV/IR Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Filter blocks infrared light and some UV, and allows a full spectrum and Astro converted camera to take normal pictures. Our hot-mirror filters include an anti-reflective corrosion-resistant coating, which reduces artifacts and increases the durability of the filter in humid regions.

The Kolari Light Pollution Filter is designed to reduce the effects of artificial light, enhancing the clarity and contrast of your astrophotography. Ideal for urban environments, this filter selectively blocks unwanted light pollution, allowing you to capture crisp, detailed images of the night sky, even in areas with light interference.

The Kolari H-Alpha Narrowband (7nm) filter is specifically designed to isolate the H-alpha emission line, allowing you to capture stunning, high-contrast images of hydrogen-rich nebulae. With a precise 7nm bandwidth, this filter enhances detail and clarity in your deep-sky astrophotography, making it an essential tool for capturing the intricate beauty of the cosmos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kolari Astro Filters are designed to enhance the quality and clarity of your astrophotography by selectively filtering light, reducing light pollution, and improving contrast in deep-sky images. Our filters are suitable for capturing nebulae, galaxies, and other celestial objects with exceptional detail.
Our collaboration with IDAS includes the Nebula Booster NBZ-II, Dusk to Dawn (DTD), HEUIB-II, and NGS1 (LPS-D3) filters. These filters are engineered to meet the highest standards of astrophotography, offering advanced light control and superior image clarity.
The HEUIB-II filter is similar to our H-alpha “UVIR CUT” filter used in Kolari’s astro modifications, but with reduced excess red signal. This makes it particularly effective for capturing emission and reflection nebulae with improved color balance and reduced star bloat.
In addition to our collaborative filters, we offer a range of standalone astro filters, including the Light Pollution filter, UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror, UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pass, and H Alpha Narrowband (7nm) filter. Each is designed to meet specific astrophotography needs, whether you’re reducing light pollution or isolating specific wavelengths for clearer images.
Kolari Vision Astro Filters are compatible with a wide range of camera systems, including stock, full-spectrum, and Astro modified cameras. Please check the specific filter’s compatibility details on kolarivision.com to ensure it fits your setup.
Astrophotography thoroughly tests the optics of any camera system and lens. Ultrawide lenses are particularly challenging because of the high rear incidence angles involved where any additional glass has the possibility of inducing a field curvature which can cause corner sharpness on a lens-by-lens basis; this effect is most noticeable at wide apertures. While this should always be a consideration with any ultra wide lens, we typically only see issues with astrophotography where the target subject is a series of geometrically perfect points of light at infinity, shot at wide apertures.
