Açores Brancos – essay 1 of 3 – picture 8 of 10.
This series relates my trip to the Azores to discover the main island of São Miguel. Through this series, I present an alternative and dreamlike vision of landscapes still little known. Indeed, the various islands that make up the Azores are preserved from mass tourism and offer authentic natural landscapes with few human markers. This preservation allows me to present imaginary places where the immaculate vegetation contrasts with the very dark sky and water. The resulting photographs tend to glorify nature and enhance its purity away from the exploitation of its resources by humans.
The few photographs incorporating buildings are constructed so as to surround them by vegetation. In this way, the signs of the human presence do not seem to dominate the nature but to integrate it.
