Black-and-White Infrared Intensive Workshop

Join us for a five-and-one-half day workshop experiencing two locations east of the Sierra Nevada: Death Valley National Park and the Alabama Hills (the foothills of the Sierra Nevada). The focus of this workshop is capture and processing for black-and-white and is scheduled around the time of the full moon.

We will be out shooting twice a day, visiting several well-known locations in Death Valley NP: Zabriskie Point, Mesquite Dunes, Ubehebe Volcano Crater. Our early morning sessions will feature the setting full moon over Panamint Range (Death Valley). The Alabama Hills offer incredible views of the snow-covered Sierra Nevada and Mt. Whitney.

From using the right gear to capture and processing, this is a unique opportunity to learn how to create amazing black-and-white infrared images.

At this workshop,

— You will be placed in the best locations to maximize the infrared light under existing conditions.

— You will receive individual help in the field to ensure a successful capture. Every day there will be hands-on experience in the classroom for processing your images while learning how to manage workflow.

— Finally, you will have the opportunity to use a “loaner” external lens filter to make infrared images at no charge to you! 720nm and 850nm infrared Kolari Vision external lens filters will be available if you do not have your own.

Fee: $1995/person (hotel, meals, and travel not included)

Location: Furnace Creek (3.5 days) and Lone Pine (2 days), California USA

Start: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 9:00am (Furnace Creek)

End: Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 12noon (Lone Pine)

Skills Required: Thorough working knowledge of your camera from capture histogram to Live-View (mirrored cameras only); confident beginner using Adobe ACR/LR and layers in Adobe Photoshop; must bring your laptop to classroom.
