Yin and Yang

Originally male and female Eclectus Parrots were thought to be different species, given the extreme differences in appearance. Under IR these parrots also starkly apparent. In the visible spectrum the female (sitting inside the tree) has red plumage covering her head which becomes blue around the body resulting in this highly contrasting white hood shown in the photo. The nearby male bright green under visible light with a orange beak resulting in the striking black bird with a white beak. I absolutely love the way there heads and beaks contrast and how the male appears as the visual opposite of the female. A living representation of the yin and yang diagram.
