Lens Sharpness

Micro 4/3 Lens Sharpness

Not suprisingly, not all lenses are as equally sharp. This is particularly the case when using lenses in infrared, some may be less sharp than others.

Something not everyone is aware of, is that lenses have different sharpness depending on the aperture. Counterintuitively, the smallest or largest apertures are not the sharpest, but rather each lens has a sweet spot in the middle range of apertures that produces the sharpest results. With infrared, lenses are usually not as sharp as with visible light, so this difference can be more apparent.

Below, we’ve made some tests with some popular M 4/3 lenses at various aperatures to show the effect and help with picking a lens. They are all 100% crops.
